Term Numbering
term must
define sequentially so that you can correctly sort, report, and analyze
term data. The system prints
transcripts, accumulates statistics, and evaluates degree progress by the
sequence of terms.
Class
Search
You must
select a date range in which you want the term to appear in the self-service
class search and browse course
catalog options for students and visitors.
Time Periods
Time
periods specify critical milestones within a term or session. They are defined
for each academic career.
Academic Terms and Sessions
Use the
Term/Session Table component to:
• Link
terms to careers.
• Link
sessions to terms within careers.
• Define
time periods within each session.
System Relationships for Terms and Sessions
Terms and
sessions are often used in these system locations:
• Schedule
of classes.
• Term
activation.
• Enrollment
request.
• Student
program/plan.
• Service
indicator data.
Term
Activation
Students
are made active per term so that permission to enroll in classes can be
granted.
Enrollment
Enrollment
is a date-driven process. It relates directly to dates that you define in the
Term or Session tables.
Student
Programs
Program and
plan changes are made by date. This date directly relates to specific begin
dates for the term and session.
Service
Indicator Data
Service
indicators can be placed per term or for a specific date.
The
Dynamic Dating Process
In a
dynamic academic calendar, you establish flexible rules that enable you to
dynamically calculate these dates or
date ranges for individual classes or student enrollments:
• Cancellation
periods.
• Withdrawal
periods.
• Drop
deadlines.
• Other
landmark dates.
How the
System Uses Dynamic Dates
Your
academic institution can create classes that begin and end at various times
throughout a term and session,
and then the institution can dynamically calculate the landmark dates for each
of these classes based on the
dynamic date rule that you assign to the class.
